Construction Updates

It was another very busy week at the West Liberty Foods Athletic Complex south of the high school, despite the very warm temperatures. One of the first new additions you’ll notice while driving or walking by is the goal posts at Giri Family Stadium have been installed. The poles are also up at the south end of the stadium for the discus nets. One unique feature to our complex is all field events for track (shot put, discus, high jump, and long jump) will take place at the south end of the stadium.
Work is almost complete on the bleachers and the Wiele Chevrolet press box. When complete, we promise you will be excited about the views!
The baseball foul poles have also been installed. These large poles will also give our baseball (and softball) field a different look than most high school fields. You can also see these from the trail or the high school parking lot as they stand 30 feet high and are very bright in color.
Another big step in the project is crews have started to frame the walls for the Larry and Gloria Dlouhy concession stand building. This building, when complete, will be home to a large concession stand with two windows, large restroom facilities, storage space, and more. Plans for the concession stand include a TV menu board, and a separate TV showing a live stream of the game happening on Memorial Field for workers and visitors to the concession stand so they can follow the action.
Lastly, crews are putting the finishing touches on the sub-base for the new Memorial Field. This is a time-consuming, very important part of the new field so we can ensure there is proper drainage.

Once again we would like to thank the public for staying out of the construction area south of the high school. As progress continues, more and more construction traffic has arrived. Your safety and the safety of all workers is important to us. You can see a great view of the progress from the path on the east side of the complex. Thank you for your cooperation and understanding.

Progress has also continued at the new ELC site!
