Construction of the new ELC and Elementary kindergarten wing remodel is near completion. We are very excited to have occupancy of the new building and remodel to begin the school year!
Our maintenance staff worked very hard this week to move the pre-k and kindergarten materials over to the new classrooms, and our teachers are now setting up their rooms for the new school year. Also, the new playground is taking shape and will soon be ready for recess.
Crews took advantage of some great weather this week to make significant progress at the West Liberty Foods Athletic Complex south of the high school. There is now a sidewalk that forms the outside of the new, 8-lane West Liberty Athletic Booster Club track. This sidewalk is a great way to make all areas around the track accessible to everyone! As work continues, a four-foot-high fence will go up on the inside of the sidewalk (outside of the track). The last piece of sidewalk (northwest corner of the track behind the straightaway) will be installed after the asphalt underlayment is poured for the track. That work is scheduled to begin the last week of August (weather, material, and labor permitting).
At the south end of the track, you can see the high jump area (inside the track) formed. Outside of the track area is where the shot put, discus, and long jump will take place. That area has started to be graded. The discus net poles are up - the discus will be thrown west from the discus ring area. The shot put will be thrown south from the shot put rings.
Plumbing and electrical work has started and is ongoing in the Larry and Gloria Dlouhy concession building. This building will have two concession stand windows, a concession stand storage room, a mechanical room, and a large restroom 1facility.
And did we mention the football/soccer field turf at Giri Family Stadium! Crews began installing this turf on Thursday and have made great progress in a short amount of time. As you can see in the north endzone, the endzones will be blue, and when complete, will have large, 15-foot white letters spelling out COMETS in each end zone. Every five yards will be a change in the green color (light to dark). As this work continues, we think you'll be excited about the logo at midfield!
