West Liberty High School Announces Inaugural
Athletic Hall of Fame Class
WEST LIBERTY, IA – West Liberty High School is proud to announce the inaugural class of the West Liberty High School Athletic Hall of Fame, honoring individuals and teams who have made exceptional contributions to West Liberty athletics.
The Hall of Fame was established to honor and celebrate the rich history and tradition of West Liberty’s athletic programs. Its purpose is to maintain the history and tradition of the successful athletic programs at West Liberty High School. The Hall of Fame will serve as a means of recognizing, preserving, and honoring the athletes, teams, coaches, and other individuals who made significant contributions to these athletic programs.
The 2025 Hall of Fame class includes a distinguished group of three athletes, three coaches, and one historic team, representing decades of athletic excellence and dedication.
- Brad Daufeldt (athlete) – a dominant force, Brad was a two-time state champion and Drake Relays runner-up in the discus. He also excelled on the football field, earning 1st Team All-State honors.
- Brent Daufeldt (athlete) – Brent won a state title in the discus and was an All-State football player. He earned All-District recognition on both offense and defense, showcasing his versatility and athletic talent.
- John Oostendorp (athlete) – a trailblazer in wrestling, John became the school’s first-ever state champion in the sport. He was also an All-State linebacker in football and achieved success in track as a state runner-up in the shot-put and state qualifier in the hurdles.
- Curt Diemer (coach) – During his 11-year tenure as head boys wrestling coach, Coach Diemer led his teams to 8 conference titles. He coached 44 individual state qualifiers and 5 individual state champions, leaving a lasting impact on the program.
- Greg Guinn (coach) – a cornerstone of the girls golf program, Coach Guinn led the team for 46 years, securing 17 conference titles and 8 state team qualifications. He also coached the co-ed state golf champions and served as the school’s Athletic Director for 30 years.
- Ron Maxson (coach) – as the head boys track coach for 31 years, Coach Maxson guided his teams to 10 conference championships and coached 8 individual state champions. He also dedicated over 40 years to coaching junior high football and basketball.
- 1964 Football Team – The legendary 1964 football team remains the only undefeated and untied football team in school history with a perfect 9-0 record. Eastern Iowa Hawkeye Conference champions, they were led by Head Coach Jim Bellamy and assistant coaches Morris Albright and Ron Jenkins.
“This inaugural Hall of Fame class reflects the rich tradition and pride of West Liberty athletics,” said Adam Loria, Activities Director. “Each inductee has made an indelible mark on our school and community. We are thrilled to recognize their achievements and celebrate their legacy.”
The induction ceremony will take place on Friday, October 10, 2025, during halftime of the varsity football game vs. West Burlington. West Liberty Schools invites alumni, fans, and community members to join in celebrating this historic event.
