Cole Daufeldt and Cael Daufeldt of the West Liberty FFA Chapter in West Liberty, Iowa, have been named national finalists this year for Agricultural Proficiency Awards. Only four FFA members nationwide are selected as national finalists in each agricultural proficiency award area.
Cole Daufeldt qualified as a national finalist for the Turf and Landscaping Management Proficiency area through working at the West Liberty Golf and Country Club for the past five years as a golf course assistant. Cael Daufeldt qualified for the Poultry Production Proficiency area involving his work at his family turkey operation, BKBE Farms, for the past five years as a farmhand.
West Liberty FFA has had four national finalists in their history: Gracie Danner (Beef Production), Lindsey Laughlin (Nursery Operations), Blaze Maas (Wildlife Management), and Morgan Hodge (National Champion in Outdoor Recreation), now adding Cole and Cael Daufeldt to the list. They will now interview against the other three national finalist in their areas to compete for national champions in their respective areas at the National FFA Convention in October.
Agricultural Proficiency Awards honor FFA members who, through supervised agricultural experiences (SAEs), have developed specialized skills that they can apply toward their future careers. Students compete in areas ranging from agricultural communications to wildlife management. Proficiency awards are also recognized at local and state levels and provide recognition to members exploring and becoming established in agricultural career pathways.
