Naming: West Liberty Foods Athletic Complex

The West Liberty School District is proud to announce the official naming of its premier athletic complex as the West Liberty Foods Athletic Complex, celebrating a significant partnership with West Liberty Foods and recognizing the generous support of our donors and community. This state-of-the-art facility stands as a testament to collaboration, vision, and the district’s ongoing commitment to excellence in athletics, student experience, and community engagement.

Phased Donor Recognition Signage Plan Unveiled

A multi-phase donor recognition signage plan will ensure that contributors at all levels are honored for their vital role in making the West Liberty Foods Athletic Complex a reality.

  • Phase I (Early 2026): Individual donor recognition signs will be installed on specific structures across the complex, including scoreboards, concession stand, and other prominent areas. This ensures early and visible acknowledgment of donor impact.

  • Phase II: A large, comprehensive donor sign will be placed just inside the main entrance gate, celebrating all giving levels. This sign will be accompanied by a new brick plaza, designed to provide an ongoing and lasting tribute to our supporters.

  • Phase III (Late 2026): With the anticipated completion of the new indoor facility, additional signage will be installed to recognize donors who have contributed to this exciting expansion.

Collaborative Design with West Liberty Foods

As the keynote sponsor, West Liberty Foods donated $500,000 to fund the project.

“None of this exists without West Liberty Foods,” stated Superintendent, Shaun Kruger. “West Liberty Foods is an outstanding community partner and stepped up to make this state-of-the-art facility possible. It’s a testament to their commitment to our students, of which many have families employed by WLF."

The district has worked closely with West Liberty Foods to create a welcoming and impactful main entrance installation. This partnership ensures that the donor recognition signage reflects both the spirit of the district and the values of our title sponsor. The large donor sign will be set in masonry that matches stone throughout the complex and include lighting installation for visibility at night. The sign will be placed in between the indoor and outdoor facilities to highlight West Liberty Foods' keynote sponsorship that made the entire project possible.

Facility Achievements and Community Impact

Since opening, the West Liberty Foods Athletic Complex has exceeded expectations in advancing the district's strategic goals. The facility has:

  • Generated new rental revenue streams to support athletic and academic programs.

  • Attracted families, coaches, and student-athletes from across the region, strengthening the community and enhancing school pride.

  • Elevated the West Liberty School District brand, making it a destination for top talent and families seeking exceptional opportunities.

  • Distinguished itself among Iowa Schools, drawing interest and admiration from other districts and athletic programs for its quality and innovation.

“We rented the softball field for Big 10 teams to practice on during the Big Ten Softball championships, we’ve been selected to host many regional and state qualifying events, and I’ve hosted countless tours with other districts and prospective families,” said Activities Director, Adam Loria.

On-Budget, On-Schedule Completion and Vendor Update

The West Liberty Foods Athletic Complex project has been completed on both budget and schedule, reflecting careful planning, responsible management, and strong community backing.

To ensure timely installation and the highest quality for donor signage, the district transitioned from the original vendor to Cardinal Sign and Graphics following unforeseen delays. This change positions the district to deliver an exceptional recognition experience for all donors and stakeholders.

"We tried to work with a traditional education vendor, but the delays became too long. We had to switch gears. It set us back a bit, but we are back on track. Cardinal Sign and Graphics has done a great job picking up the ball and running with it," said Loria.

Future Expansion: Indoor Facility Completion and Ongoing Updates

Looking ahead, the district anticipates the completion of the new indoor athletic facility by the end of 2026. This expansion will further enhance the complex's capabilities and provide new opportunities for student-athletes and the broader community, and the district is regularly putting out project updates. Donor recognition will continue to be a priority, with updated signage and installations planned as part of the ongoing capital projects.

Conclusion: Advancing Together

The West Liberty School District extends its deepest appreciation to West Liberty Foods, all donors, and the community for their unwavering support and partnership. The success of the West Liberty Foods Athletic Complex demonstrates the power of collaboration and shared vision. These capital projects not only strengthen our district but also inspire future generations to achieve, compete, and succeed. We look forward to welcoming everyone to the complex and celebrating the continued growth and excellence of West Liberty Schools.
