Let's Go Cruising Comets! 2022 Cardboard Boat Regatta

On Friday, May 13th six West Liberty High School students will be participating in a Boat Regatta in Bettendorf, Eric Yao, Betsy Bejarano, Arza Martin Thomas, Josh Zeman, Karla Velasco, and Amerie Alvarado. Their team name is The Cruising Comets. The event is planned by the Quad Cities Engineering and Science Council.  The following paragraph explains the challenge.

Event Challenge:  Teams from area high schools & colleges will design and construct a one to three-person vessel made from cardboard.  It must be maneuverable and stay afloat for approximately 600 yards.  The boats will compete at the Bettendorf Middle Park Lagoon.  The boats will be timed from the moment they leave the lagoon dock to the time they return, with the fastest time winning the race competition with two other judged awards given out.

Below are some photos from the build:

On Friday, May 13th The Cruising Comets loaded up their boat and headed to the Bettendorf Regatta competition.  Thanks to teacher Jackie Henderson, they arrived in style in the hearse from Henderson-Barker Funeral Home!

The Comet Cruisers made it pretty far in their boat!  Good job team!
