WEST LIBERTY SCHOOL DISTRICT SELECTS CONTRACTORS
TO START NEW ATHLETIC COMPLEX AND SCHEDULES GROUNDBREAKING FOR OCTOBER 4TH

WEST LIBERTY, IA – At a special meeting on Tuesday, September 6, 2022, the West Liberty School Board voted to move forward with two important phases of the new athletic complex project.  The school board selected Rathje Construction to start mass grading and relocate the water main.  There were five bids for this phase with Rathje coming in at $492,500.  The district met with several members of the construction committee to review options for the water main and with the recommendation of the committee decided to move forward with relocating the line.

“This is why it’s great to have some local expertise for consultation,” said Superintendent, Shaun Kruger.  “We have several members of our construction committee that have run successful businesses here in West Liberty.  We are grateful for their help and advice on this project.”

The school board also voted to purchase the football stadium bleachers and press box from Hanson Sports.  There were five companies that submitted bids and Hanson Sports came in at $449,362.

“With the long lead times for many products right now we were happy to move forward and get things going with the bleachers and press box,” said Activities Director, Adam Loria.

With a construction company selected to start the groundwork, the district has scheduled an official groundbreaking for October 4th at 4 pm.  This will take place at the new construction site.  All donors and community members are invited to attend with more information and formal invites coming soon.  The groundbreaking will be a significant event for the community with press coverage, photo opportunities, and project announcements.

“We are excited to kick things off,” said Kruger. “We hope to have a big turnout and want everyone in the community to attend and participate in this monumental event for West Liberty.  It will also give us an opportunity to publicly thank our donors.”
