Mrs. Appler shared an exciting update from our academic delegation's travels in China — they visited Peking University in Beijing, then traveled to Shijiazhuang, where they enjoyed the zoo, visited Yuanshi No. 1 School and Shijiazhuang Foreign Language School, and joined students for art and soccer. 🎨⚽ They made new friends and gained fresh perspectives on international education.

The West Liberty Girls Golf team was selected by the Iowa Golf Association Foundation to receive 4 complete sets of golf clubs, as part of their "Fore the Future" initiative, in partnership with Ken Schall Golf Performance Studio. This spring, nearly 60 complete sets of clubs will be delivered to 27 high schools at no cost to students or schools! Presenting the clubs was Clint Brown from the Iowa Golf Association Foundation; also pictured are Coach James Laughlin and Comet Varsity Girls Golf team members Kamryn Gilmore and Kenley Harned.

The "Fore the Future" effort began in October with a statewide club donation week. Thanks to the generosity of IGA members, hundreds of clubs were collected. Those clubs were carefully sorted and transported to Ken Schall Golf Performance Studio, where Seth Svejda, PGA, and his team regripped the clubs as needed. The studio donated 30 full sets of grips, along with significant time and materials, ensuring each club was restored to optimal playing condition. To ensure the sets were competition-ready, the clubs also required new bags and headcovers. More than $7,000 was donated to the IGAF to purchase these items, allowing each set to look and perform its best on the course. Any remaining funds will support continued youth golf development efforts to create additional opportunities for young players to get involved in the game.

We would like to thank the Iowa Golf Association Foundation and all involved in the "Fore the Future" initiative for this generous donation! #wlcomets #iowagolfassociation

The West Liberty chapter of Educators Rising attended the 3rd annual state conference at the University of Iowa yesterday. Eleven students were in attendance, along with sponsors Ashley Shimmin and Merideth Schanz, and all learned a lot about how and why they could become educators in the future. Students had opportunities to hear from Apriring Educator panelists, attend College of Education classes, go to breakout sessions, and hear a keynote from the Iowa Teacher of the Year, Melanie Bloom.

Katerin Meza Murillo and Encarnacion Tzip presented a breakout session about their experience volunteering at the elementary school in a kindergarten classroom last trimester. They emphasized the importance of student support and bilingual learning. High School Principal Brenda Arthur Miller helped guide the discussion.

Finally, the chapter was awarded a $250 grant to support our efforts with a teacher appreciation project this year. Students left the conference with a renewed passion for learning about the education field and making West Liberty a place of cooperative learning at all levels!

Last week, the West Liberty Agricultural Education Program/FFA Chapter was selected as the top agriculture program in Iowa in 2026. This award was announced through the Iowa Association of Agricultural Educators. The award specifically highlights the achievements and growth of the program over the last five years (2021-2026) in Classroom Instruction, FFA Success, Work-Based Learning Opportunities, Business Partnership, Marketing, and Teacher Professional Development.
