The High School Library has applied for and received a Racial Justice Fund grant from the Community Foundation of Greater Muscatine. This grant is awarded to charitable organizations that work to reduce barriers towards racial justice in the Greater Muscatine Area. The grant will be used to purchase books in Spanish for the high school library. These books will be used to support our ELL, Dual Language, and Newcomer students.
The High School Library has been granted an award from Hope in a Box. Hope in a Box donates literature featuring LGBTQ characters to rural schools. Along with the donation of 50 books, WLHS will receive curriculum and educator coaching on LGBTQ themes and inclusive classrooms. The program is designed to show educators the power of literature to cultivate empathy, dispel stereotypes, and inspire pride.
